Understanding ADHD Accommodations for College Students
In the past 40 years, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has become a familiar term. Even for those who do not have ADHD, many either know or have known someone with this disability. Since its inclusion in the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Diagnosis and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM) in the 1980s, awareness of ADHD and methods to treat and enable those with ADHD to thrive have grown. It is estimated that approximately ten million adults have ADHD. These people must work daily to accomplish tasks that others may find easy or commonplace.
